Racecar maker Prodrive has announced a street-legal variant of its Hunter buggy; a prototype should be coming later this year.
According to the company, the car will not change much, but will become wider to accommodate larger wheels. The 3.5-liter Ford V6 will probably get a boost from its 406 to around 507 PS (400 – 500 hp; 300 – 373 kW, respectively). The transmission will naturally be different, while the suspension will be carried over without major changes. The cabin will be re-fitted for greater comfort.
Prodrive CEO David Richards calls the road-going Hunter ‘A Ferrari for the desert’, pointing out that no one has produced a car capable of traversing sands at 160 miles per hour (258 km/h) and cover up to 310 miles (500 kilometers) on a single fuel tank.
The exterior of the original rally car has been designed by Ian Callum, ex-Jaguar designer. Nani Roma piloted it to the fifth position in the overall ranking of the Rally Dakar in January this year.
Prices will exceed £1,000,000. Production quantity remains to be announced.
