An incredible challenge has recently been set up by ABB Group, partner of the all-electric racing championship Formula E, and Qatar Airways. The two companies put a Spark SRT_01E racecar up against two planes – an ascending Airbus A350 and a landing Boeing 787 Dreamliner – in what looks like one of the most amazing drag races in history.
The Spark SRT_01E has a body built around a sleek carbon-aluminum chassis. Its entire body kit is pure carbon, which allows it to weigh in at mere 880 kilograms. Its all-electric, 270-hp (200 kW) drivetrain accelerates it from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in three seconds.
The ultra-lightweight Spark SRT_01E was piloted by Formula E driver Jérôme D’Ambrosio for the race. Be sure to watch the video to see how it worked out!
