General Motors moves with the times with its own self-drive car

The renowned automotive concern General Motors has announced the forthcoming release of its own fully autonomous car.

To that end, the company has published several photos and a video showing their new vehicle conspicuously missing the pedals and the steering wheel. These are now made completely obsolete by the controlling firmware, the manufacturer states.

The new self-drive vehicle should premiere at the Detroit Motor Show 2018 starting in a few hours. It is said to be based on the Chevrolet Bolt chassis and come equipped with the LiDAR rangefinders, 24 radar units and 16 video cameras all charged with the task of spatial orientation and autonomous driving.

General Motors hopes to begin production as early as next year. It is currently performing some conclusive tests of its self-drive tech.
