Last year’s Geneva show was canceled on short notice after the Swiss government put a ban on public events. The organizers hoped to hold it this year, but ended up pushing it back to 2022. It you had your hopes set for next year, however, we have more bad news for you.
It has now become official that there will be no Geneva IMS in 2022. In an official letter addressed to all interested parties, CEO of GIMS Foundation Maurice Turrettini promises to hold the show in 2023, taking it ‘to a new level.’ No specific dates are given.
As one would expect, all hurdles preventing the trade fair from happening for the third year in the row inevitably have something to do with the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic. First, many media crews are unable travel to Geneva to cover the event properly. Second, automakers are struggling with microchip shortage and other instances of supply chain disruption, with no indications of things improving in the future. Third, the coronavirus could prove particularly dangerous when spread in enclosed spaces with thousands of visitors.
