The tuner team over at Wimmer Rennsporttechnik has an engine upgrade in stock for the Australian sports car KTM X-Bow (read as ‘crossbow’). Let’s have a closer look at it, shall we?
The car ships in three versions: R, RR and GT. All three get the same 2.0L V4 engine and six-speed DSG transmission. The entry-level R model is missing the windshield, while the range-topping GT Carbon sports carbon-fiber panels and aero parts. It is these two that Wimmer Rennsporttechnik decided to tackle.
The team replaced the exhaust system, tuned the engine control software and made a few other modifications. As a result, the performance of the stock KTM X-Bow engine went up from 300 hp / 224 kW to 485 hp / 362 kW. The torque simultaneously rose to 520 Nm (384 lbft).
Now, a result like this would be impressive under any circumstances, but consider for a moment that the all-carbon car weighs in under 800 kilograms, and you’ve got a street rocket.
The Australian vehicle now needs under 3 seconds to reach 100 km/h (60 mph) and 9.9s to fly past 200 km/h (125 mph). We can’t help but wonder how it must feel, going at 125 mph without a windshield… Crazy!
