The board of directors of
the American company producing electric cars persuaded the head of Tesla, Ilona
Mask, to abandon the idea of building a compact crossover Model Y on a
fundamentally new chassis. The concept has changed in order to bring the novelty
to the world market as soon as possible and save on the development of the
platform itself, which is extremely expensive. And besides, yes this moment, it
is the SUV segment that is the most perspective and demanded.
Initially, the use of an
entirely new technology platform was planned in order to refuse the scheme
using 12-volt batteries, which is used absolutely in all Tesla vehicles.
Another power supply system would solve the issue with a lot of wiring and
simplify the process of assembling the car.
Now, as it was said before,
Tesla Model Y will be built on the basis of the architecture used at the heart
of Model 3. But Mask still hopes that the idea with a reduction in wiring will
be realized to some extent.
