The British vehicle manufacturer Jensen International Automotive (JIA) has revealed a car project that took more than a year to complete – the splendid Range Rover Chieftain.
The vehicle is designed after the classical first generation of Land Rover Range Rover cars manufactured between 1970 and 1996. It still uses the more modern 3rd-gen Land Rover Discovery chassis which had to be made shorter for the entire thing to work. Apparently, though, this wasn’t the greatest challenge JIA engineers had to cope with.
The new Range Rover Chieftain by JIA got a no-nonsense 6.2-liter V8 borrowed straight from the top-end previous model of Cadillac CTS-V. The engine yields 556 hp and 750 Nm torque and can accelerate the car to 100 km/h (60 mph) in just 4.5 seconds. The car has air suspension which should provide for a smooth ride in most extreme road conditions.
The interior deserves much praise as well. The designers have managed to retain all principal features of the classical Range Rover and at the same time add to the feeling of authenticity – not as surprising when you consider that the same team routinely deals with luxury yacht designs.
According to Jensen International Automotive, another Range Rover Chieftain like this would take approximately £250,000 and a year to complete.
