Morris J-type to live again as an all-electric retro van series

Morris Commercial – a British car brand revived two years ago – wants to re-issue the Morris J-type van that used to be in production between 1949 and 1961. The concept car should debut before the end of the year.

The new Morris JE is but the first entry in a long series of electric cars Morris Commercial plans to design and produce in the coming years.

According to the manufacturer, the van is neither a replica of the original J-type nor a restomod, but rather an environmentally clean re-imagination of the van from the 1950s. Allegedly, the first prototype has already been built based on a modular chassis and carbon-fiber bodywork. No details exist on the number of engines or battery capacity just yet.

The historical Morris Commercial J-type (see video) shipped with sliding doors, a three- or four-speed gearbox, and a modest 1.5-liter gasoline engine.
