New Karma Revero GT hybrid debuts in China

Luxury vehicle manufacturer Karma Automotive has unveiled the Revero GT, a hybrid car based on a gasoline engine sourced from BMW. Production will begin in California, USA next year.

The only purpose of the 1.5-liter turbocharged unit is to generate more power for the electric motors, which combine their efforts for 535 hp (400 kW) and 1,010 Nm (745 lbft) of torque.

The car needs 4.5 seconds to sprint from zero to one hundred km/h (62 mph), which is almost a full second below the model it is based upon. It comes electronically limited at 201 km/h (125 mph) and can only travel up to 100 kilometers (62 miles) using its modest 28 kWh battery. The range goes up to a respectable 450 km (280 miles) once you fill the gas tank.

Karma Automotive has also used the recently opened motor show in Shanghai to reveal two concept vehicles, the SC1 Vision and the GT Coupe. The latter is a collaboration with Pininfarina and comes equipped with the same hybrid drivetrain as the Revero. The SC1 Vision has a roadster body design and is a pure design study, which means it gives us an idea of what to expect from the car marque in the future.
