Car manufacturer Karma Automotive has signed an agreement with BMW which entitles it to equip its Revero sports sedan/saloon with BMW TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engines.
While not stated explicitly, the new Revero will most likely ship with the 1.5-liter, 231-horsepower B38 engine of the BMW i8. The old version packs a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder General Motors engine rated at 238 hp (177 kW).
In case you don’t remember, the Revero is an electric car that only uses its IC engine to power the traction battery and electric motors.
Karma assures us that the new sports car is faster, has newer tech, and boasts a more impressive body design. That latter bit sounds rather exciting, but the photos we have seen so far show what looks like the old Revero.
The car will celebrate its premiere at the 2019 Auto Shanghai starting in several days. It will arrive in the second half of 2019 priced above U.S. $150,000.
Karma Automotive and BMW have been cooperating in the R&D of vehicle power generators since 2015. According to Karma CTO Bob Kruse, the new engine will enable the vehicle to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.5 seconds, denoting an improvement of almost a full second over its predecessor model.
