U.S.-based tech firm Waymo is primarily known for its self-driving cars, but its scope of activities seems to expand beyond that narrow definition. One of the company’s latest patents concerns an innovative airbag that cushions the passenger’s entire body to minimize the impact.
The operating principle should be clear from the few patent images provided. During a collision, the airbag expands and proceeds to immediately envelop the front seat occupant head to toes, substantially reducing the risk of trauma.
The development team claims two such bags could be installed to ensure protection of the driver and the front passenger.
