Nio ES8 electric SUV enters market in China

Environment preservation is considered among the most urgent issues both in the political circles and the society in China. The new battery-powered crossover Nio ES8 aims to address it at least somewhat.

The Chinese company Nio had mostly kept a low profile until recently, when it joined the ranks of luxury car producers with its Nio ES8 advertised as “a direct competitor” of Tesla Model X.

The vehicle is essentially a mass-produced model of a concept of the same name which debuted at the Shanghai car show earlier this year. It is built on lightweight aluminum framework and comes with air suspension as well as two axle-mounted electric engines with 650 hp total output.

Generally, the car travels up to 350 kilometers (~217 miles) before complete discharge, but can make up to 500 km (310 mi) if you keep it under 60 km/h (37 mph) at all times. It accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-58 mph) in 4.4 seconds.

The interior of the new Nio ES8 makes use of high-quality Nappa leather and is dominated by an infotainment system with a large touchscreen. On the outside, the car sports unique 21-inch alloy wheels and 360-degree view cameras.

The Nio ES8 crossover can be purchased in China at 448,000 Yuan and above. The company intends to release it on the other markets within the next two years.
