Nio announces an electric sedan due in 2022

China-based automaker Nio only has three electric SUVs on its lineup: the ES8, ES6 and EC6, but a few sedans will be joining them soon, the company reports.

The announcement is accompanied by a teaser pic of a concept car named the Nio EE7. It looks much like the ET Preview Concept from the last year (see video), but many of the smaller details are different.

All Nio-branded production cars share the same basic powertrain design: dual electric motors available in versions ranging from 435 to 653 hp (324 – 487 kW). The largest available battery size is 100 kWh, which is reportedly sufficient for up to 615 km (382 miles) of NEDC range.

As a flagship model, the new Nio sedan will also be getting a Level 4 self-driving system, the company reports.

Rumor has it that the car will be present at the 2021 Chengdu Motor Show starting on January 8, but this is not official. Availability is expected in 2022.
