The renowned Italian coachbuilder has set off to design the exterior and overall styling direction of the first all-electric car to be produced by Detroit-based startup Hercules Electric Mobility Inc.
The two companies will soon join their efforts on the Alpha pickup truck project, and will then proceed to co-design other vehicles as well. Pininfarina’s Senior VP Giuseppe Bonollo says he would like to emphasize the drive towards environmental cleanliness in this particular work.
The Hercules Alpha should emerge on the market by late 2022, packing four electric motors rated at 1,000 HP (745 kW) total.
Entrepreneur James Breyer, who used to design EVs for Ford and General Motors, founded the Detroit carmaker three years ago. In April, he started looking for investors willing to put around $20 million into the project. Nissan was among the companies that took interest.
