Renault has introduced a new two-door concept car, reviving the "8" name and the Gordini badge. The original Renault 8 Gordini was a notable performance variant from the 1960s and 1970s, associated with the former in-house tuner Gordini.
The concept's design reportedly evokes the shape of the 1960s Gordini 8s. It features a coupe form, retaining elements such as round headlamps and a V-shaped indentation on the front fascia. The interior is described as a throwback, incorporating small, circular screens on the dashboard to represent analog gauges and physical switches on the center console.
This rear-wheel-drive coupe is said to have 270 horsepower. Renault is currently referring to this as an "exercise in style." A production version could potentially align with the brand's strategy of retro-styled electric vehicles, which includes revivals of the 5 hatchback, Twingo city car, and a crossover bearing the historic 4 name, as well as an Alpine-badged hot hatch and a rear-wheel-drive performance model.
However, the concept, along with two other previously shown concepts, is slated for display at the company’s Renault Collections museum when it opens in 15 months, suggesting it may not be an immediate precursor to a new production car.
