Renault and Mercedes release a highly efficient V4 engine

The Renault-Nissan and Daimler alliance have developed and produced a mass-market ready version of a 1.3-liter V4 turbocharged engine. Its production involves a special technology of cylinder processing previously employed for the Nissan GT-R.

The processing method allows to reduce friction and optimize heat distribution so that the resulting engine performance can be considerably improved. It comes with a factory-installed direct fuel injection system and an irregularly shaped ignition chamber which contribute to fuel economy.

The new engine will be released in three versions rated at 115, 140, and 160 horsepower. These will be compatible with a six-speed manual and a seven-speed, twin-clutch SST.
