Top management figures of the Renault-Nissan alliance are seriously discussing an opportunity to merge their businesses into one. The resulting car concern would then stand peer-to-peer to such automotive giants as Volkswagen AG and Toyota.
Interestingly, Renault-Nissan managed to beat both of the abovementioned manufacturers by the total volume of cars produced in 2017.
The French Renault holds a 43-percent share in the Japanese automaker, while the latter has a 15 percent share of the former. Merger negotiations are now being conducted between companies and their respective state governments, with some experts voicing fears that the deal may fall through because the authorities have their own stock in these two companies and may be unwilling to lose this lucrative source of income.
