Both the Rivian R1S (SUV) and R1T (truck) will be priced under U.S. $69,000. This may still seem like a bit much compared against the $39,900 of the Tesla Cybertruck, but the reality is more interesting than that.
The price quoted above gets you a fully featured Rivian SUV or truck with most boxes ticked. For $69,000, you get a giant 135-kWh traction battery for at least 483 kilometers (300 miles) of range, panoramic roof, and other premium features. The standard spec will be much more affordable with its smaller 105-kWh battery and 370 km (230 miles) of range, but the company does not reveal the price tag yet.
The R1T debuted at the Los-Angeles Auto Show two years ago as a large vehicle platform driven by four wheel-mounted electric motors. The power delivery to the ground comes close to 760 hp (567 kW), enabling the bulky car to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in three seconds flat despite the weight. The R1S has exactly the same technical specs.
In a recent video, Rivian showed us a unique feature of the R1T called Tank Turn, which enabled it to turn around almost without moving – but only on soft ground or gravel. The company later announced that its both vehicles would be able to charge other cars if needed.
