The SAIC R Auto subdivision has brought a battery-powered car named ES33 to the Shanghai Auto Show, essentially improving upon the R-Aura Concept from before.
The model sports a dual-color finish and a glass roof, as well as a body painstakingly optimized for aerodynamics. The company says it has tested even the 22-inch wheels to ensure proper airflow.
The ES33 is a smart car that maintains an Internet link at all times and connects to a plethora of services. Its self-driving system uses a state-of-the-art NVidia chip to analyze data coming from numerous radars, cameras and sensors.
Interior photos are lacking, as are powertrain and range details. Despite this, SAIC R Auto is already accepting pre-orders, promising to start sales next year.
In other recent news, Zhiji – another brand controlled by SAIC – debuted a new sedan named L7 with a huge 117-kWh battery and 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) of NEDC-rated range.
