All Terrain All Electric (ATAE), a budding automaker from Scotland, UK, is planning to start small-batch production of battery-powered SUVs called Munro. Let’s have a closer look at them.
In its current guise, the utility vehicle uses the Foers Ibex F8 chassis (watch the video for an overview of that model). The donor car designed by Foers in Yorkshire comes out in small quantities and rocks a stainless-steel frame, a unitized body, a GFRP hood, and aluminum bodywork. The Munro depicted in our gallery looks nearly identical to it.
ATAE admits that it had considered taking the Land Rover Defender as the starting point; however, another company named Twisted claimed the rights first. Not only that, but the old-gen Defender left production five years ago, which implied the need to seek out aftermarket units and invest in restoring them.
No performance specs have been announced so far, because the carmaker is still looking for powertrain and battery vendors to cooperate with. The only prototype available uses a sole electric motor rated at 210 PS (207 hp / 154 kW) and can cover 240 km (149 miles) before running out of charge.
The all-roader is supposed to be marketed towards casual buyers, as well as farmers, natural park organizations, and travel companies.
ATAE hopes to produce road-going pre-production units for highway and off-road tests soon, and to start shipping next year. Prices are estimated in the €50,000+ area. Production quantity will be capped at 1,000 annual units.
