We had thought Sony would sell its first concept car ever, but the tech giant seems determined to keep testing and polishing it for the time being.
The company released a video showing its Sony Vision-S Concept on a ride through Austria. The testing will continue until at least the end of the current fiscal year, representatives claim.
The all-electric design study is not going to reach the mass market anytime soon (or ever, for that matter). When Sony unveiled it at the CES show in Las-Vegas early this year, it aimed at demonstrating several promising state-of-the-art technologies with it. Among other things, the vehicle’s autopilot system relied on as many as 33 sensors. Another killer feature arrived in the shape of a 360 Reality Audio System with satellite speakers built even into the seats.
The Vision-S rides on a one-off chassis designed by Magna Steyr and packs dual electric motors jointly rated at 268 hp (200 kW). It sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.8 seconds and maxes out at 240 km/h (149 mph).
