Things have been tough for Spyker for a while now, and CEO Victor Muller is now seriously looking into filing for insolvency.
Reports from last August said the Netherlands-based wannabe automaker drew attention of Russian oligarchs Boris Rotenberg and Michael Pessis. Both allegedly showed interest in producing the sports car named C8 Preliator and the SUV inspired by the D8-Peking-to-Paris Concept. However, it now turns out no actual investment took place.
Back in 2013, the company announced the B6 Venator coupe and roadster series, expecting to begin production in 2014. Debts prevented the duo from ever reaching the assembly lines, and though the company avoided bankruptcy at the time, it proceeded to build more design studies and concepts instead of trying to produce earlier prototypes.
The C8 Preliator (see video) emerged in 2016 as a coupe-shaped successor to the C8 Aileron model, and a roadster version followed soon afterwards. It was then that Spyker decided to switch from Audi to Koenigsegg powertrains, landing the spyder car with the 5.0-liter V8 of the Agera and Regera.
British enterprise CPP Metalcraft was to produce the C8 Preliator, but never did due to lack of funding. Spyker had also reminisced about the B6 Venator and D8 models for a while before wrapping off production plans.
Even though the situation looks dire right now, Victor Muller hopes to be able to attract investment and rescue the marque from oblivion.
