It is likely that the car showroom in Frankfurt will
become a platform for the world debut of the prototype Mazda3 Concept, equipped
with an advanced generation of engines with sparkless ignition technology.
Power units with the technology called Homogenous
Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) will be able to surpass the efficiency of
current gasoline engines by almost 30%. It is assumed that the new engines will
be presented under the SkyActiv II brand. They will work as follows: at low
engine speeds, the engine will still use spark plugs, and at high speeds use
HCCI technology.
This innovation will undoubtedly have a positive
effect on fuel economy. Consumption will decrease from 7.8 liters per 100
kilometers to 5.6 liters.
It is the new model Mazda3 will be the first
production car with the advanced engine SkyActiv II. It should be said that
Mazda Motor Corporation is not the first corporation to develop in the field of
HCCI technology. Before it were Mercedes-Benz and General Motors, but they
could not bring the idea to mass production.
