Countless streets, several museums and even a crater on Mercury bear the name of the famous Dutch post-impressionism artist Vincent Van Gogh. Now there is going to be a car series named after him, too. The Chinese startup company Art Bank Motors has launched the development of a crossover SUV series dedicated to the legendary painter.
A spokesperson for the company said the team drew inspiration from the works of Vincent Van Gogh and tried to reproduce the same atmosphere and mood in the design of their new vehicle. Both the interior and the exterior of the car make intensive use of Van Gogh’s most favorite colors and shades.
The SUV offers room for 4 people, but its cozy, homely interior makes one want to sit back and spend time with a good book, rather than go anywhere. The steering wheel and the dashboard are lined with felt, while the seats and the armrests are draped in foam-white leather. It doesn’t feel like the designer ever wondered how to better integrate a modern touchscreen display and a HUD projector in the otherwise retro-looking environment. As a result, there is a simple iPad in place of the former, sticking out like a sore thumb.
The vehicle uses a 218hp / 163kW electric engine to travel up to 500 km / 310 mi on a single charge. It accelerates to 100 km/h (60 mph) in 8 seconds and doesn’t go above 160 km/h (100 mph).
Art Bank Motors expects to launch series production of their Vincent Van Gogh SUV line in 2019. Prices will exceed 30,000 USD for the base version.
