You could say that the miniature French sports coupe that is the Alpine A110 is a paragon of proper automotive design. Equipped with a relatively modest engine rated at just 252 hp (188 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lbft) of torque, it still manages to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.8 seconds and double that speed in 16.8s. It also lags a mere second behind the 300 hp (224 kW) strong Porsche 718 Cayman on the Sachsenring Circuit, which it completes in 1:38.51.
As you probably have guessed, it is not the engine that’s the strong point of the car, but rather its low weight (1,100 kg / 2,425 lbs.) and neat aerodynamic shape. And if you still want more horses from that mill, DTE Motorsports has a chip tuning in store for you.
Called the PowerControl X Module, it takes mere minutes to install and boosts the Alpine A110 to 292 hp (218 kW) and 369 Nm (272 lbft) of torque, essentially feeding it that 718 Cayman for breakfast. Nice!
