Cupra or Volkswagen – which one of the two car marques has the best chances to emerge victorious in a fair drag race showdown? The answer may seem obvious, but don’t jump to any conclusions just yet. Instead, watch the video in which an ever-so-slightly boosted SUV Cupra Ateca goes up against the ultra-popular hot hatch Volkswagen Golf R.
Despite the different body styles, the cars actually share much in common. For instance, both come equipped with 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines and AWD. The Golf weighs in at 1,530 kilograms (3,373 pounds), but the Ateca is hardly much heavier at 1,615 kilos (3,560 lbs). The Volkswagen engine is still slightly ahead in terms of raw performance, but the Cupra compensates for it by having its own unit boosted by 50 hp (37 kW). ABT Sportsline offers the ECU upgrade for £500.
All of the above considered, it is hard to predict which car turns out the first to cross the finish line. We will not spoil the ending, either, but rest assured that there is some real fighting going on between the two!
