Volkswagen revealed the four-wheel drive electric minivan

The German concept car debuted at Detroit Motor Show 2017. This all-electric MPV will join Volkswagen I.D. family.

The model previews a retro-styled based on the 1950s classic Microbus. It has electric motors at both axles and a 110-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is mounted in the floor and provides 430 km driving range, like most petrol cars. They deliver 369bhp of combined system output. The car is able to accelerate from 0-60mph in about five seconds. Top speed of the I.D. buzz is limited to 99mph, to protect battery charge. Charging via a 150-kW charger takes slightly more than 30 minutes.

Fully autonomous driving capability will be provided by laser scanners, radar sensors, ultrasonic sensors, area view camera and front camera which acquire information about traffic conditions and other factors. Traffic data is also received via an internet. So-called ID Pilot mode will introduce by 2025.

The MPV concept is 4941mm long, 1976mm wide and 1963mm tall. It has 3300mm wheelbase and can carry eight people. There are two separate luggage compartments at the rear and up front .

The ID Buzz will go on sale in 2022, according to preliminary information.
