SSC North America has released a video demonstrating its Tuatara hypercar during a high-octane highway drive. The manufacturer plans to release a limited series of just 100 vehicles and says it is going to be the fastest street-legal car in existence.
The SSC Tuatara comes powered with a 5.9-liter, eight-cylinder engine nominally rated at 1,350 horsepower (1,007 kilowatts). Filling the tank with a gasoline/ethylene mixture will raise the output to 1,750 hp (1,305 kW).
The car utilizes numerous carbon components and weighs in at under 1247 kilograms (2,750 pounds). At just 0.27, its aerodynamic drag coefficient is unsurpassed by most.
The original Tuatara Concept debuted all the way back in 2011. Back then, the company wanted to give it a 6.9-liter turbocharged V8 engine capable of 1,700 hp (1,268 kW) as long as racing-grade fuel is used.
The final production version of the SSC Tuatara premiered late last summer with its design conceptualized by a Pininfarina ex designer.
