The newest sports car from the German niche automaker Wiesmann should have been revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but the company limited itself to another portion of teaser pics.
Like other Wiesmann works, the Project Gecko is a retro-styled coupe. Powered by a twin-turbo BMW V8 with up to 625 PS (460 kW) at the crank in its M5 implementation, it sends the torque to the rear wheels using the BMW eight-speed automatic transmission. Accelerating from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour (62 mph) takes 3.5 seconds, and the ceiling is at 320 km/h (199 mph).
Reportedly, the Project Gecko is based on a brand-new automotive architecture that features an integrated bodywork-bearing frame and places the engine between the axles, which ensures optimum weight distribution. Extensive use of carbon fiber enables further weight reduction.
The car, which is being advertised as the company’s fastest and most agile vehicle to date, should come into the spotlight sometime later this year and hit the showrooms in 2020.
