X Electrical Vehicle prints cheap battery cars in 3D

The Chinese automaker X Electrical Vehicle will come to the Beijing Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2018) with a prototype version of the first mass-produced 3D-printed car in history. The so-called LSEV Concept should make it into production in early 2019 and cost as low as U.S. $9,200.

Every single part of the new compact urban vehicle takes several hours to complete using an industrial printer. Tires, glass windows, batteries, the engine and the chassis are the only parts not printed in 3D. Creators of the LSEV claim it should weigh in under 450 kilograms (<1,000 lbs.) and be able to travel up to 150 kilometers (93 miles) prior to complete discharge. Its top going speed is going to be 70 km/h (43.5 mph).

X Electrical Vehicle admits that its current production capacities are limited to just 500 LSEV cars per year. Nonetheless, since the company has already received over 7,000 pre-orders – mainly from delivery services who are interested in a cheap and efficient means of urban transportation – it plans to expand quickly to meet the demand.
