Young British carmaker unveils the retro-themed Wells Vertige

Everyone welcome the new player on the automobile market: UK-based Wells Motorcars has just announced a compact, lightweight, retro-inspired coupe named the Wells Vertige.

Businessman Robin Wells, who founded the company, first thought about design his own sports car seven years ago. Apparently, he had wanted to purchase a lightweight and agile car but found none he would like enough to invest in, so he decided to make one himself instead.

The mid-engined Vertige is 4 meters (13.1 ft.) long and 1.75 meters (5.75 ft.) wide. Its Ford-badged two-liter petrol engine sits behind the seats and between the axles, churning out 208 PS (205 hp / 153 kW) onto a six-speed stick-shift gearbox. Getting from nothing to 100 km/h takes roughly five seconds, and the top speed makes 225 km/h (140 mph). The car weighs in at just 850 kg (1,874 lbs).

Wells is currently busy piecing seven cars together for his family and friends, and plans on making 25 units per year priced from £40,000.
