A wildly remade Toyota Celica up for grabs for a token sum

A strongly modified 1977 Toyota Celica with a swapped powertrain among other modifications is up for grabs in the United States right now at no reserve. The top bid is $9,600, and Bring a Trailer closes the listing in a few hours.

In its classical form, the liftback was capable of 97 PS (96 hp / 71 kW) and 162 Nm (120 lb-ft) of torque. This example had its four-cylinder engine replaced with a slightly more up-to-date Toyota 22R-TE mill offering 2.4 liters of displacement, 137 PS (135 hp / 101 kW) and 234 Nm (172 lb-ft) of torque. Driving the rear wheels is a five-speed manual transmission allegedly borrowed from a Toyota Supra.

Speaking of the wheels, they are 15-inch Data RA alloys wrapped in Toyo Prozes R888 rubber. A glimpse behind the spokes reveals Wilwood calipers at the front end, and the adjustable suspension makes use of a large number of aftermarket components from various brands.

Interior highlights include Sparco bucket seats, a roll cage, a sports steering wheel and track-ready safety harnesses. The mileage is not states.

Judging by the photos, the car is in a rather battered condition with much work needed on the exterior and cabin. The latter might prove very costly, considering that it is not a well-documented production car but rather a one-off project. Perhaps this is why the bidding hasn’t been going great.
