The original Shelby Cobra (see video) has never been considered heavyweight with its aluminum bodywork, tubular frame and reasonably small block summing up to just 1,088 kg (2,400 lbs). Later versions made use of glass fiber to shed another 90 kilos (200 lbs). This, however, is a different vehicle altogether.
Classic Recreations built this Cobra almost exclusively from carbon fiber. The end weight remains to be revealed, but the entire body including the hood and the doors tips the scales at just 40 kilograms, or under 90 pounds.
Called the Diamond Edition Carbon Fiber Shelby Cobra Race Car, it is primarily a track tool, although the company does not state explicitly whether it is street-legal or not. When it reaches the market, it will compete against the hypercars of today, offering more comfort and a superior driving experience, according to CR.
The chassis used in the project is all-new and lack the usual tube-frame. Power for the build comes from a third-gen Ford Coyote V8 engine supercharged to deliver around 812 PS (803 hp / 600 kW).
A total of 10 units will be made priced from $1,200,000.
