1960s-era Shelby Cobra up for grabs for $1.2M

This Shelby 427 Competition Cobra belongs to the iconic series of 23 racecars Shelby produced six decades ago, and won the 12 Hours of the Sebring in its own category in 1966. The seller hopes to get between $1 and $1.2 million out of the deal.

Shelby had originally intended to assemble 100 such racecars, but only ended up making 56 and selling 23. The rest were converted into street-legal vehicles. The seller claims that Bob Grossman, who won the 1966 12 Hours of the Sebring, ditched his Ferrari 250 LM for this Cobra.

The vehicle with the VIN CSX3016 has changed ownership many times and undergone numerous modifications, but its latest owner and seller had it restored to the OEM specification. This included finishing the body in its original Silver Mink with vivid racing stripes, putting a black roll bar on it and replacing the exhaust pipes.

A seven-liter Ford engine under the hood makes around 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW) and drives the wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads 13,300 kilometers (8,250 miles).
