Honda has patented a new model name in the USA: ADX. Given that marque’s car naming conventions, the three letters sound like they belong on an Acura-badged premium electric SUV.
Carscoops believes the new model will be based on the same GM Ultium tech as the Cadillac Lyriq featured in the gallery and video here. Honda and General Motors signed an agreement earlier this year that enables them both to use the Ultium platform for new car development.
This means that Acura designers and engineers will be able to adopt chassis, motor and battery designs from GM. The Cadillac Lyriq is currently only available with a motor rated at 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and a 100-kWh traction battery good for 483 km (300 miles) of range.
The purported Acura ADX will most likely avoid cloning the Lyriq completely and feature its own exterior and cabin design instead. Both models will be produced in the GM factory in Tennessee. The Acura RDX may go into production in 2024, followed by its Honda twin named ‘Prologue’.
