The Acura Precision EV is a self-driving design study destined to become real

The all-electric crossover SUV features a transforming interior with movable controls and mainly exists to show you what future Acura vehicles will look like. However, the company actually does plan to produce a similar-looking SUV in a few years.

Starting with the exterior, the front end is dominated by is an illuminated faux grille following Acura’s Diamond Pentagon design direction. The grille combines with the LED headlights and lower apron sections to form a light signature known as Particle Glitch. The same pattern can be discerned on the 23-inch wheels and in the taillights.

Elsewhere, the concept has slanted a-pillars, an elaborate shoulder line and a pair of spoilers with brake lights at the rear.

Small video cameras are used instead of mirrors to minimize drag. The available photos show no door handles whatsoever, but we suspect that Acura is just really good at hiding pull-out handles.

Inside, the yoke-shaped steering wheel immediately catches the eye followed by a semi-transparent digital dash panel and a driver-facing infotainment touchscreen.

Magic happens when you push the ‘Spiritual Lounge’ button: the controls move to the front, the HVAC injects a flowery aroma into the conditioned air, and the multimedia system projects an animated image. The car handles all the driving in the meantime.

Acura points out that only environmentally clean materials were used in the fit-and-finish. The leather on the seats with enhanced lateral support was synthesized from biomass, while the plastics all around were derived from recycled raw materials.
