4th-gen Acura MDX breaks cover, ships in February

Following the teasers showing a pre-production MDX model, Acura has now revealed the final version of the SUV along with detailed specs.

The car comes based on the same platform as the latest TLX sedan and now uses a dual-wishbone front suspension design instead of McPherson struts. Multi-link suspension remains untouched at the rear, but the subframe becomes more rigid. Power braking is now electric, rather than vacuum-based.

The SUV is 5,039 mm (16.53 feet) long, 1,999 mm (6.55 ft.) wide and 1,704 mm (5.6 ft.) tall with 2,891 mm (9.48 ft.) between the axles. All four dimensions are larger than those of the third generations, and the wheels now measure 19 inches across instead of 18, too.

For the first time on record, the MDX makes use of the Acura Precision Cockpit digital dash with its 12.3-inch display. The multimedia touchscreen has the same size, and there is also a 10.5-inch HUD. The tunnel still houses a touchpad, the three-row interior offers more legroom overall, and the rear seat bank has a removable middle section.

Powering the 2022 MDX model is its old 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 rated at 294 PS (290 hp / 216 kW) and 362 Nm (267 lb-ft) of torque. The automatic transmission gains another – tenth – gear, and while the base spec comes front-driven, you can pay extra to get the fourth-gen SH-AWD system with couplings on the rear wheels.

Sales in the United States will start in February. Prices will range from $46,900 to $60,650. A performance-oriented MDX Type S will follow in summer, packing transmission and suspension tweaks, AWD, Brembo brakes and 21-inch wheels. Its 3.0-liter V6 turbo will churn out 360 PS (355 hp / 265 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque.
