If you are lucky enough to have a high-tech aluminum-bodied supercar sitting in your garage, perhaps you should be extra careful with it. Luxury carmaker Acura just confirmed that to have your NSX supercar repaired after an incident, you would have to ship it to the United States and back – even if you reside in Europe.
The Acura NSX comes powered by a 3.5-liter, bi-turbo V6 engine assisted by three electric motors. Their resulting output amounts to 581 hp (433 kW). Mated to a nine-speed semi-automatic transmission, the setup accelerates the car 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and takes it all the way up to 310 km/h (192 mph).
Known as the Honda NSX in Europe, the model is still manufactured and assembled at the Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio, USA. The company insists that this is where you should send your car in for repairs if its body gets damaged. There are currently no Acura dealerships throughout the world authorized to conduct repairs themselves, allegedly due to the exceeding complexity of the process.
Starting from 2016 when the second-gen Acura NSX came out, the company has only successfully repaired a total of 15 cars. Most of the associated costs were covered by insurance companies.
