Acura considers restoring old NSX models

Honda has been restoring first-gen NSX sports cars in Japan for ten years now, and now, its U.S. spin-off Acura is also looking into this opportunity.

The corresponding statement stems from NSX Team top manager John Watts, who spoke at the recent online event called Acura NSXPO. He pointed out that the final decision has not been reached thus far. Acura has sold just under 9,000 NSX vehicles in the United States, and most are still in a good overall state. If the company were to launch the restoration program, one complete treatment would cost around U.S. $140,000. This includes $1,200 for preliminary inspection alone; getting the body or the powertrain back into top shape would necessitate another $37,000, and so on.

The second-gen NSX is currently being produced at the company’s Performance Manufacturing site in Ohio. This is where the restoration will most likely take place if the management greenlights it.
