Put aside any food or drinks: the sight of this Acura NSX is not for the faint-hearted. The rare sports coupe had spent a decade and a half sitting underwater, but once recovered, someone actually bought it (!) and is now going to bring it back to the road, no matter the cost.
It is common knowledge that the majority of metals found in industrial use today have only limited corrosion resistance. Throughout its 15-year-long dirt nap (sorry!), the NSX had rusted through so completely that even the largest moving parts, like doors and the hood, became completely stuck. It also ended up with a damaged a-pillar and a dented arch on the right-hand side, as well as packed dirt and river mud in all imaginable places.
As one might guess, most restoration shops would immediately refuse to work with what appears to be nothing more than pitiful remains of a once-proud NSX. The owner, on the contrary, is full of enthusiasm and reckons that he will see it through to a complete recovery. Parts of bodywork can be sawed off and replaced, the chassis can be custom-fabricated if needed, and the wiring can be done from scratch (or, rather, it will have to be done from scratch). The project already has a funny nickname, and it’s ‘Loch-NSX’.
We are intrigued as to whether anything good will ever come out of this endeavor, but credit where credit is due – the owner surely is a brave man. We will keep you updated if there are any new developments.
