Mad tuner sets off on a quest to merge two destroyed Acura NSX into a good one

A touch over a month ago, we reported about a highly unusual car restoration undertaking going on in the USA. A man found an extremely dirty and half-rotten carcass of the iconic Acura NSX on the river bottom and vowed to have it restored to perfect driving condition. We were looking forward to more news from him – and here they come!

It turns out that Nico, who works at Helix Auto Works, has spent the time searching for other NSX wrecks suitable for use as donors. He has indeed acquired one, which he said was in ‘mint’ condition, adding the mandatory ‘kind of’. A single glance at this ‘mint’ Acura will tell you volumes: specifically, that its entire rear end died in a fire, leaving only the front end and – miraculously – some of the drivetrain intact.

As bad as the wreck may look to you, the monstrous Loch-NSX salvaged in late March wasn’t any better off at the beginning. If you try really hard to look at the bright side, you will notice that the drowned Acura had most of its body panels in decently preserved condition. It had a broken a-pillar, but that one could be sourced from the burnt car. The same goes for most of the cabin, the front doors and wheel arches, and even the front bumper with headlights.

For his own part, Nico seems full of optimism and jokes that the most challenging part of the project is behind him now. Apparently, when he drove to another U.S. state just to recover the burnt NSX, he ended up spending around three hours securing it on the hauler. Even so, the sharp jutting metal parts managed to lacerate the tarp and cu through one of the securing belts. Eh, all is well that ends well, right?

We are looking forward to hearing more from Helix Auto Works, and cannot help but wonder whether the colossal undertaking will eventually demand more NSX wrecks hauled in and merged into a single epic Frankencar.
