Acura RDX spins off a new edition

Acura has revealed the third entry in its PMC (Performance Manufacturing Center) lineup: a soft-roader named “RDX PMC Edition” will be joining the TLX sedan and the MDX crossover soon.

The car will enter production in Ohio and come out in a batch limited to just 360 units assembled by hand. Compared against its mass-produced counterpart, it will boast 20-inch glossy black wheels, a radiator frame color-matched to the body, dark exhaust finishers and assorted black décor throughout.

The killer feature comes in the form of a new paint option called Thermal Orange Pearl, which has been available for the Acura NSX and select other models since last year. Robotic arms apply the coat in multiple layers, interspersing them with mica particles and four layers of clear lacquer. The painting alone takes five days to complete. During the assembly, the crew installs the engine manually, then puts in all the wiring, and only proceeds to finalize the interior when the rest of the car is complete.

The RDX PMC Edition spec mentions sports seats wrapped in perforated leather and artificial Ultrasuede, heated steering wheel and back seats, and a heads-up display.

The powertrain stays stock, a Turbo VTEC 2.0 engine working in tandem with ten-speed automatic transmission and SH-AWD that can send up to 70% of torque to the rear axle and even manage the torque between the two rear wheels (up to 100%). The numbers are 276 hp (206 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft).

Sales will begin in October starting from approximately U.S. $50,000 before options.
