Acura debuts its new TLX saloon

Following the premiere of the Acura Type S Concept a year ago, the company has implemented it as the new generation of its TLX sedan/saloon.

The car makes a switch to a completely different technological platform, which entails size changes across the board. Specifically, it is now 4,943 millimeters (16.22 feet) long, 1,910 mm (6.27 ft.) wide and 1,433 mm (4.7 ft.) tall with 2,870 mm (9.42 ft.) between the axles.

The interior clearly benefits from the switch, gaining free space and an appropriately luxurious trim scheme involving leather and wood veneer.

The next-gen Acura TLX will only ship in turbocharged form. The entry-level four-cylinder comes rated at 276 hp (206 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque, and the transmission it hooks onto is ten-speed automatic. The drive stays on the front axle by default, but customers may opt for the Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system that can redirect up to 70 percent of torque to the rear end.

Options also include the A-Spec package, which adds 19-inch wheels, a large rear spoiler, tinted lighting and black body accents. The range-topping TLX Type S is also in the works with a potent 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 under the hood.
