It cost €170k to have this Alfa Romeo 155 racer restored

A 1995 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI is heading to the block in February next year with the chassis number 005 and only a couple of Diepholz victories to its name. Prices aren’t discussed right now, but someone paid €170,000 to have it restored four years ago.

The Alfa Romeo 155 GT racer rose to the top of the DTM championship in Germany in 1993, but this specific example did not shine quite as brightly as its peers did. Alfa Romeo-backed Euroteam took it to the track in 1995 and 1996, prompting driver Michael Bartels to leave Team Lotus to join the Alfa Romeo team. He only managed to come 10th in 1995, however, and 21st the year after.

The car had its 2.5-liter V6 rated at 420 PS (415 hp / 309 kW) completely restored along with the chassis. It had not left private collections since then, and the engine was only ever started at dyno stands.

DTM racecars are not that rare to encounter on sale, but the majority of them are much more expensive Mercedes-Benz ones. For instance, a Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM that was built seven years ago and claimed the top of the pedestal at the 2016 Moscow Raceway event, is on sale right now for €1,282,328.
