Alfa Romeo comes back to Formula One

After 33 years of non-participation, Alfa Romeo has officially said it would participate in the FIA Formula One World Championship in the coming year. The company becomes the title sponsor of the Sauber Team.

The last time Alfa Romeo cars took part in the race was during the 1985 F1 Championship.

According to the newly signed cooperation agreement, both parties undertake to engage in “strategic and commercial cooperation”, as well as “share engineering and technological experience”. Interestingly, Sauber already has a sponsor contract with Ferrari. Actually, Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team cars will be equipped with Ferrari motors for the race.

Alfa Romeo participated in F1 debut seasons in 1950 and 1951, claiming victory both times. The Italian team also took part in the race 1979 through 1985.
