Mazda MX-5 cosplays as a 90-year-old Alfa Romeo 158

After hitting the spotlight in 1930, the Alfa Romeo 158 quickly ascended to the Hall of Fame of single-seat racecars. Ant Anstead, from Tipo 184, felt like paying homage to it.

The British tuner found that the second-gen Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster has suitable dimensions for converting it into a 158 lookalike. He started things off by designing a custom space-frame, bodywork and dashboard frame.

If we were to highlight a single item, we would point to the eight-tip exhaust system. The original car had eight cylinders and 1.5 liters of displacement, and while the replica only has four cylinders, it benefits from 1.8 liters of operational room. Of the eight finishers, four are real and the other four fake, but who cares?

Ant Anstead is taking orders from £7,500. Interestingly enough, customers are invited to bring their Mazdas to his garage for retrofitting and build the replicas themselves. The cost includes the materials and guidance.
