According to Car Magazine interpreting the words of Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, the Design Director at Alfa Romeo, the company intends to unveil a special supercar in 2023 that would mark the end of the ICE era and the beginning of the all-electric age.
Mesonero-Romanos said in a recent interview that the car would be inspired by Formula tech, come equipped with a traditional engine and have everything in place to surprise fans. The publication believes it could be based on the Giulia’s V6 engine capable of 540 PS (533 hp / 397 kW) in its boldest versions.
As for the source of inspiration for the new model, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale pictured here and in the video immediately comes to mind. It is often called one the company’s most beautiful vehicles ever created. With that in mind, we should probably also consider the Alfa Romeo Montreal designed by Marcello Gandini, which the designer also mentioned in his interview.
Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato has already mentioned the company’s links with Formula One, including a partnership with the Sauber team. As such, we would not be surprised to see this alleged new supercar based on a carbon monocoque and co-designed with Sauber.
The first concept is expected next year, but the production is expected closer to 2025.
