Alfa Romeo works on mini-CUV to rival BMW X2, Audi Q3

Alfa Romeo seems determined to expand its range by releasing a compact all-electric CUV that would provide worthy market competition to the BMW X2 and the Audi Q3. The company has provided no name for the vehicle so far.

According to the manufacturer, the SUV segment is steadily growing, and one has to adapt to this trend by releasing new SUV / CUV models.

A few months ago, Alfa Romeo was putting some finishing touches on its all-new Stelvio crossover. Rumor has it that, along with the release of the mini-CUV announced earlier today, the company plans to bring out a flagship SUV model. If true, this would mean at least 400,000 Alfa Romeo SUVs produced annually, starting in 2022.

Details are scarce about the new vehicle right now. The company says it will be based on a trimmed-down version of the Giorgio platform and ship rear-driven with optional 4WD. In turn, the hi-end model will get a hybrid drivetrain with 400 hp (300 kW) and 50 km (30 mi) all-electric driving range.

The mini-CUV will be officially introduced in 2020, with the flagship following in 2021.
