Extremely rare Alfa Romeo heading to auction in Japan

One out of a dozen or so Alfa Romeo Disco Volante sports cars produced between the Italian automaker and Carrozzeria Touring seven years ago will soon be offered for sale in Japan. Even in its tiny production batch, it features a unique exterior and may thus be worth a small fortune.

Alfa Romeo launched the Disco Volante production in 2018 to pay homage to its iconic namesake from the distant ‘50s. It used the 8C Competizione chassis as the base and tuned its 4.7-liter V8 to 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. With a drivetrain like this, the modern Disco Volante can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds.

This example was delivered in a bright red finish said to be close but not identical to that of the original car. It also features a unique radiator grille, louvers on the rear quarter panel windows and a steering wheel trimmed with brown leather.

Carrozzeria Touring produced this example based on an 8C Competizione model that had 6,300 km (a touch over 3,900 miles) by the time of the conversion. The owner proceeded to put another 5,200 km (3,230 miles) on it afterwards.
