Alfa Romeo unveils two power-heavy Giulias at once

The Italian carmaker has been teasing us with mysterious images for a while now, but the mystery is over now. Enter the New Giulia GTA and GTAm, arriving to celebrate the manufacturer’s 110th birthday.

Design-wise, both cars draw inspiration from the Alfa Romeo GTA coupe dating back to the 1960s. The new Giulia GTA takes the latest-gen Quadrifoglio sedan as a starting point. It boosts the Ferrari V6 2.9 from its usual 510 hp (380 kW) to 540 hp (400 kW) and reduces the weight by around 100 kg (220 lbs) thanks to the liberal use of modern composites. The result is an impressive weight-to-power ratio of 2.82 kg/hp – a record-breaking high value in this market segment, according to Alfa Romeo. The New GTA needs only 3.6 seconds to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill, something which took the regular Giulia 3.9 seconds.

The newcomer also boasts an active aerodynamic kit, a titanium exhaust system with a carbon-fiber rear diffuser, 50 mm (2 inches) of extra wheel span, unique 20-inch wheels, carbon décor throughtou the body, and enhanced suspension.

For its part, the Giulia GTAm is marketed as a dedicated track tool (although it is road-legal, too). This one boasts further aerodynamic enhancements, two seats inside, and six-point safety harnesses. Both have plenty of carbon fiber and Alcantara in their cabins.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio claimed the title of Nürburgring’s fastest-going production sedan/saloon several years ago, but the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 dethroned it a while later and proceeded to improve its result even further since then. Chances are good that Alfa Romeo will attempt a comeback with its New GTA.

The total production run of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm will be limited to just 500 units, and customers will be invited to personalize their rides straight from the factory.
